The Manor Series: Julia Zytko Letting the Music Lead

Dance is about more than the steps themselves. It is about the way movement responds to music, how a dancer interprets a sound and the details that turn choreography into something personal. For Julia Zytko, the studio becomes a space to explore that relationship — finding the moments within the music that give movement its character.

As part of The Manor Series Volume 1, Julia joined a lineup of dance professionals for three days dedicated to training, creativity and sharing knowledge with the wider dance community. The intensive brought artists together at The Manor LDN, creating space for dancers to learn from different approaches and perspectives on movement.

For her full class, Julia works with Tinashe’s “Needs”, a track whose contemporary R&B sound provides the foundation for her choreography. The music offers room to explore rhythm, texture and expression, inviting dancers to connect with the track rather than simply move through the counts.

The result is an opportunity to experience Julia’s choreography in full, from the details of the movement to the way it comes together with the music. Captured at The Manor LDN in Finsbury Park, London, the class is part of The Manor Series archive — bringing the energy of the studio to dancers beyond the room.
