CHOREOGRAPHY BY ERYN BATES
ARTIST: MISSY ELLIOTT - DRIPDEMEANOR
LOCATION: THE MANOR LDN DANCE STUDIO, FINSBURY PARK, NORTH LONDON
For Eryn Bates, choreography is about more than simply getting through the steps. As a professional dancer specialising in Jazz Funk, Commercial and performance, she has developed a movement language centred around musicality, expression and the freedom to make choreography feel personal.
That approach runs through the way Eryn teaches at The Manor LDN. Her classes give dancers space to explore movement with personality, whether they are working through Jazz Funk or stepping into her choreography and Smooth Choreography sessions. The focus is not just on executing the movement, but on understanding the music and allowing the performance to come through.
Eryn’s work sits somewhere between precision and freedom. Jazz Funk and Commercial give her a foundation, but it is the detail — the texture, musicality, attitude and intention — that brings her choreography to life. Her passion for creating and teaching is central to that process, helping dancers find something of their own within the movement.
For this choreography, Eryn takes on Missy Elliott’s “DripDemeanor (feat. Sum1)”, released in 2019 as part of ICONOLOGY. Produced by Missy Elliott and Timbaland, the track carries the unmistakable rhythmic and playful energy that has become synonymous with Missy’s work.
It is exactly the kind of music that leaves room for performance — and at The Manor LDN, Eryn knows how to fill that space.
