CHOREOGRAPHY BY JARON JOHNSON
ARTIST: AYRA STARR - COMMAS
LOCATION: THE MANOR LDN DANCE STUDIO, FINSBURY PARK, NORTH LONDON
Jaron Johnson’s approach to choreography starts with energy. Working across Hip Hop and choreography, his classes at The Manor LDN are built around performance, attitude and finding a way into the music. His style has a distinctly urban edge, with routines designed to give dancers space to push their performance and personality.
That energy comes through in the way Jaron approaches movement. Rather than treating choreography as simply a sequence of steps, his work is about how the movement feels — the dynamics, the rhythm and the confidence behind every hit. It is a style that asks dancers to commit to the performance as much as the choreography itself.
For this class, Jaron takes on Ayra Starr’s “Commas”, a track from the Nigerian singer’s 2024 album The Year I Turned 21. The song became one of Starr’s defining releases, combining her Afrobeats roots with a self-assured message about growth, confidence and success.
At The Manor LDN in Finsbury Park, Jaron brings that same sense of confidence into the room, creating choreography that gives dancers something to perform as well as something to learn.
