CHOREOGRAPHY BY ALEX CHAMBERS
ARTIST: CHRIS BROWN - MONALISA
LOCATION: THE MANOR LDN DANCE STUDIO, FINSBURY PARK, NORTH LONDON
Alex Chambers came to dance later than many professional dancers. Growing up in Adlington, sport was initially his first passion, before training locally and then in Manchester opened up a different direction. It was there that he began to discover his natural connection with musicality and dynamics — two qualities that would go on to become central to his work as a choreographer.
For Alex, choreography starts with listening. He has spoken about the importance of understanding the music, lyrics, layers within an artist’s vocals, rhythm and flow before movement even begins. That philosophy has shaped a style described as smooth, slick and effortless, while his professional career has taken him into work with Ariana Grande, Kiesza, will.i.am, Rita Ora, CeeLo Green, Hugh Jackman, Little Mix, Olly Murs, Camila Cabello, Cheryl and the Pussycat Dolls.
His choreography has also reached some of the UK's biggest live stages. Alex was choreographer for the Team GB Homecoming Concert at Wembley and worked as Pro Dancer Choreographer on the Euro 2020 Final Closing Ceremony at Wembley Stadium, productions involving large-scale casts and audiences.
That instinct to let the music lead comes through in his work at The Manor LDN. For Lojay, Sarz and Chris Brown's “Monalisa”, Alex takes a track rooted in Afrobeats and brings his own smooth, performance-driven choreography into the room. The Chris Brown version was released in 2022, following the original Lojay and Sarz track.
