Blake John Wood: A Choreographer Without a Box

Blake John Wood has never been interested in putting choreography into one box. Originally from Australia and now based in London, his career has moved between commercial dance, fashion, music, movement direction and creative work — with each environment asking something different of the artist behind it. His approach is rooted in precision and musicality, but equally in understanding how movement needs to read for the person, the camera and the audience.

That range is reflected in the world Blake has built around his work. His credits include Universal Music, Warner Music, Island Records, MTV Australia & New Zealand, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Disney Channel and Mecca Cosmetica. In 2019, he became Choreographer & Dance Coordinator for Marquee Nightclub Sydney, working with dancers for artists including Usher, Bruno Mars, The Black Eyed Peas and A$AP Rocky.

More recently, Blake’s work has moved further into artist development and movement direction. He has choreographed for JADE, including her live performances and solo era, while his wider creative work has included FKA twigs and TWICE. That evolution feels natural for an artist who has always described his choreography as something that continues to change — driven by curiosity, experimentation and a desire not to be boxed into one style.

At The Manor LDN, Blake brings that perspective to Tyla’s “Is It Love”. The choreography gives dancers a chance to work with his attention to detail, musicality and performance quality — experiencing the movement language of a choreographer whose career has been built around adapting to the moment rather than forcing every project into the same shape.
