CHOREOGRAPHY BY LUTHER BROWN

ARTIST: MAVADO - DAD & BBC RICH

LOCATION: THE MANOR LDN DANCE STUDIO, FINSBURY PARK, NORTH LONDON

For Luther Brown, choreography starts with listening. Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Toronto, Luther grew up surrounded by music, even helping his father with his Toronto radio show as a child. That early connection gave him an instinct for hearing the details within a track — an instinct that would become one of the defining qualities of his creative work.

That musicality has carried through a career spanning decades and continents. Luther has choreographed for artists including Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Daddy Yankee, Megan Thee Stallion and Ozuna, while his work across So You Think You Can Dance and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist earned him two Emmy nominations. He has also worked across major tours, residencies, film and television, developing a reputation for creating choreography that feels inseparable from the music itself.

Luther has spoken about allowing the music to dictate where a piece goes — listening to everything from the bassline and high-hats to the lyrics, then building a story around what he hears. For him, choreography isn't about filling a track with as many steps as possible; it is about taking the dancer somewhere, creating moments and letting the music shape the journey.

That philosophy comes into the studio at The Manor LDN with Mavado’s “DAD & BBC RICH”. Luther’s choreography plays with rhythm, texture, groove and performance, giving the dancers space to respond to the track while experiencing the musicality that has defined his work for generations.
