CHOREOGRAPHY BY MARQUISE WILLIAMS

ARTIST: KWN - FIVE MORE

LOCATION: THE MANOR LDN DANCE STUDIO, FINSBURY PARK, NORTH LONDON

For Marquise Williams, movement is about more than simply learning steps. With a versatile foundation spanning ballet, contemporary, jazz, modern, heels, Hip Hop, Afro and lyrical styles, Marquise approaches dance as a space for exploration, individuality and creative expression. That breadth is what gives his work its distinct sense of freedom.

Based in the United States, Marquise has built his career across performance, choreography and teaching, working with artists and creative teams across different styles and disciplines. His experience includes performing in Oskar med K’s “Spellbound”, while his choreography has also been recognised through ELEVĀTED’s winning entry in the Choreographer’s Cup competition, “When Dove’s Cry”, created alongside Howard Washington, Alexis Baines, Erika Rogers and Eva Anderson.

Teaching sits at the heart of Marquise’s creative practice. His approach is centred on versatility and helping dancers develop their own artistic voice, rather than simply reproducing movement. Across his classes, different influences can exist side by side — from technical training and contemporary movement to Hip Hop, Afro and performance styles — creating space for dancers to explore what feels authentic to them.

That approach came into the room at The Manor LDN, where Marquise brought his choreography to KWN’s “Five More”. The result is a class built around musicality, texture and individuality, giving dancers the chance to take the track somewhere of their own while experiencing Marquise’s distinctly versatile approach to movement.
