The Choreographer Who Reads a Room Before It Moves

From nightlife's biggest stages to artist-specific direction, at The Manor LDN

8 April 2026 · 1 min read

Choreography by Blake John Wood

There's a particular kind of pressure that comes with choreographing for a room that never stops moving — where the crowd is the audience, the artist is the headline, and there's no second take. That's the world Blake John Wood has operated in since 2019, holding down the role of Choreographer & Dance Coordinator for one of nightlife's most demanding stages. It's a job built on instinct as much as technique, and it's exactly the instinct he brought into The Manor LDN's Finsbury Park studio.

What stood out in the room wasn't a résumé recited line by line — it was watching someone translate years of reading a live crowd into choreography built for a very different kind of room: one with mirrors instead of a dance floor, and dancers instead of a nightclub crowd waiting for the next drop. Wood's work with Jade Thirlwall speaks to a different side of that same instinct — creative direction built for an artist's individual voice rather than a room full of strangers, and a reminder that his range extends well past nightlife into genuinely artist-specific choreography. Watching him move between the two registers in a single class was, for dancers in the room, a masterclass in itself: proof that the same creative instinct can hold a nightclub and shape a single artist's signature style with equal precision.
